[10:13] * [gTV]C'est_la_V eats some chips
[10:13] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> Why are you eating chips, Boss
[10:13] <[gTV]C'est_la_V> I always eat chips when I'm stressed
[10:14] <=^catablanca^=> She always eats anything when she's stressed, ignore her
[10:14] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> What's bugging you?
[10:14] <[gTV]C'est_la_V> Tired, the week is SOOOO long ><
[10:15] <=^catablanca^=> Well it's Friday, right, it's almost over
[10:15] <[gTV]Aya_Reiko> Ara, I've got some breaking news!!
[10:16] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> Look we KNOW about the Crocodile hunter ok
[10:16] <[gTV]Aya_Reiko> :<
[10:16] <[gTV]Aya_Reiko> No Chiba Mamoru has thrown himself in front of a bus!!
[10:16] <[gTV]C'est_la_V> !
[10:16] <=^catablanca^=> What?
[10:16] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> The f[BLEEP]k?!
[10:17] <[gTV]Aya_Reiko> There was a girl crossing the street and he ran out, tackled her, knocked her to the curb and hung back just long enough to land in front of a bus that was idling at the light!!
[10:18] <=^catablanca^=> Wait so he wasn't hit? And the girl wasn't in danger of being hit?
[10:18] <[gTV]Aya_Reiko> No...
[10:18] <[gTV]C'est_la_V> Why would Mamoru-san do something like that??
[10:21] <Mizunomics01> Isn't it obvious, Minako-chan.
[10:21] <[gTV]C'est_la_V> No??
[10:22] <Mizunomics01> Think about it. He spent his whole life sacrificing himself for Usagi and looking cool in the process.
[10:22] <Mizunomics01> "Oh, let me take Fiore's claws in the back" for instance
[10:23] <@SpeedRcrX> No that was him just wanting to be penetrated by Fiore
[10:23] * [gTV]C'est_la_V vomits
[10:23] <=^catablanca^=> Oh God Haruka that was nasty
[10:24] <Mizunomics01> Yes. Well, anyway, the point I was trying to make was that now, in the age of peace, when the Senshi aren't in danger any longer, he no longer has any context within which to demonstrate his more masculine proclivities
[10:24] <@SpeedRcrX> Pee-Wee Herman went to a movie theatre for that kind of s[BLEEP]t
[10:24] <Mizunomics01> Not THOSE Proclivities, Haruka-san/
[10:25] * [gTV]C'est_la_V just... stops eating. It's for the best
[10:26] <Mizunomics01> SO, he tried to ennoble himself in the eyes of the public by "saving" a girl who doesn't need saving, and risking an injury to himself in the process.
[10:26] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> But that just makes me do this: ::rollseyes::
[10:26] <Mizunomics01> Well it IS Mamoru-san.
[10:28] <[gTV]C'est_la_V> MY THIRD WEDDING ANNIVERSARY IS IN THREE DAYS!!
[10:28] <FireFly_9> You just remembered, didn't you.
[10:28] * [gTV]C'est_la_V is away: k[BLEEP]o ><
[10:28] <=^catablanca^=> Ahahahaahhahaah
[10:29] <[gTV]Aya_Reiko> Ara, Crow-chan perhaps you should buy her a gift to give her husband, ne?
[10:30] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> ... what's with this "Crow-chan," it's "Karasuma-san!" How can you be so loose, she who was my rival for the #1 of the animamates?
[10:30] <[gTV]Aya_Reiko> Ara, but I was promoted above you, so I'm calling you -chan.
[10:30] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> That's not how it works!
[10:31] <[gTV]Aya_Reiko> Ara, it's not polite to argue with your boss :)
[10:31] * [gTV]Karasuma_Akane lets out a long, barely suppressed whine of pain
[10:32] * [gTV]Karasuma_Akane is away: fine I'll buy her a gift to give him GOD I hate being an underling
[10:33] <Reverend_H> You can be my "unerling" any time, babe
[10:33] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> Test me, PedoPriest, and I'll rip that horn off and shove it up your NOSE
[10:34] <FireFly_9> Nose isn't bvery rude... I expected something more crude from you, no offense
[10:34] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> He's such a big ass the crystal might fit there with no problems
[10:34] * FireFly_9 takes your point
[10:34] <Reverend_H> You can take my point any day, yo
[10:34] <FireFly_9> Elios you are this close to being gutted.
[10:35] * Reverend_H is away: lol

#1488: “Ahh Vizacrap got hacked”

Vizaweb hacked, FTP update access suspended
Well, some idiot has finally gone and done it; someone has hacked Vizaweb, the hosting service Suburban Senshi runs on (As if the service wasn't unstable ENOUGH without their efforts.) Here's the announcement:

Hello,
Due to a major attack launched on our network, we have disabled FTP access until further notice. Please note, you can still access your account through secure ftp (sftp) and ssh. Secure FTP is very much the same as regular FTP and can be configured in almost all FTP clients using sftp, ssh, or secure ftp as the connection protocol, and port 22. Normal FTP passwords are communicated with the server in plain text. With secure FTP, only your primary cPanel username and password will work and I would suggest that you immediately log into cPanel and change your password to prevent future misuse if your password was obtained.
A hacker has sniffed our network for FTP passwords. Since FTP passwords are sent in plain text, this is a relatively easy thing to do and unfortunately there is no way to really protect against password sniffing except for disabling FTP altogether. We also recommend that you use the secure version of cPanel and web mail when accessing your account. I have enabled this on all domains. Please ignore the expired SSL cert warnings. We are scrambling to get these updated as soon as possible.
On compromised accounts, the hacker has uploaded a snippet of JavaScript to index.htm, index.html, or index.php files in the public_html folder only. A good way to tell if it has been compromised is if the file was updated today, 09/05/2006. If you find that your file was compromised, please immediately remove the file and upload a new file from backup. If you need to download a backup from your site, please log into cPanel, click on backup, and then the daily button to obtain your backup from Monday morning. This backup will be updated tomorrow morning, so it is a good idea to look into this immediately.

Ed: What, you mean they couldn't Turn OFF backups? Are they SERIOUSLY going to back up infected crap? What about people who don't GET this mail until tomorrow? MORONS.

The other way to fix your site if it has been compromised would be to download the hacked file and remove the snippet of JavaScript at the end of the file; then re-upload.
We are currently working with our datacenter to investigate the hacker's identity. This is top priority for us, so please understand if there is a minor delay in responding support tickets. For those of you that were told an email update was coming about the spam issues on the network, that email is still scheduled for tomorrow.
If you have any questions on this or any other issue, please submit a support ticket through your member's area.

Thanks,
Rick Mueller
VizaWeb Inc.
Generated by VizaWeb Inc

Yes, thanks Rick. The utility I use to upload my updates (which stores them in a database for autoarchiving and such) does NOT use Sftp. What this means in short is that for the moment I CANNOT make updates as I would like. I'm manually editing the HTML to drop this in.
So for the time being Updates to the main page are suspended. Hmph. I needed a short break anyway.

[00:30] <[gTV]C'est_la_V> Oh as if you were doing any real work here anyway :P

Shush :P

So Suburban Senshi main page updates will be back once Vizaweb gets itself in order. For those of you with FTP hosted accounts here, this means you'll have to use SFTP on port 22.

Gee I don't know why ANYONE would be dissatisfied with VIZAWEB. ::rollseyes::

[12:29] *** Set by on Tue Sep 05 12:29 2006

[12:29] <FireFly_9> Some more words about Steve Irwin:
[12:29] <FireFly_9> Steve Irwin followed his bliss right into Legend. His genuine joy came through on every episode of his show. Sure, he may have hammed it up. Sure, he took a million reckless risks and the habit eventually caught up to him.
[12:29] <FireFly_9> But the man lived like he meant it. Who can say they saw his sense of purpose waver? When he spoke of his passion for conservation, of the mission that had chosen him, it was plain that his heart did not know the corruption of doubt.
[12:30] <FireFly_9> Those rushing to be the snarkiest belle at the ball would do well to examine their own lives, their own ambitions. How many of your hopes and dreams are still folded up and uncolored? Steve Irwin became a mythic figure in 44 years. He stomps now through the wilds of Elysium, tracking game greater than any he knew on this mortal coil.
[12:30] <@SpeedRcrX> I now officially hate stingrays
[12:31] <@SpeedRcrX> This guy lived more life in one show than most of us will live in our lifetimes
[12:31] <The Vampire Lyrica Hubert> Steve should feel right at home crossing the river Styx ; the first animal he'll see, Cerberos, is described as "a monstrous three-headed dog (sometimes said to have 50 or 100 heads) with a snake for a tail and serpentine mane". I imagine he won't look back.
[12:33] <@S.X. Aino> Steve wouldn't have wanted you to hate the stingray
[12:34] <@S.X. Aino> . . . Sometimes I wonder if humans are only allotted so many amazing moments in their life. When they're used up, they die. I can't imagine he would have traded it for 100 more years.
[12:35] <@SpeedRcrX> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqnVZwXQbQk <-- Steve's funny Sportscenter commercial
[12:35] <Reverend_H> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Okp5FTKOB4 <-- one for Fedex, yo
[12:35] <@SpeedRcrX> ... f[BLEEP]k you Elios
[12:36] <Reverend_H> I didn't mean it like that T_T
[12:37] <Reverend_H> I was certain that the reason he was able to do the things that he did with these incredibly dangerous animals, was that there was some sort of unspoken agreement between him and the animal kingdom.
[12:37] <Reverend_H> Snake: Oh crap, someone's touching me. I am so going to bite this f[BLEEP]ker... wait, it's Irwin. Fine, yeah yeah, I'm a real beauty. Uh huh, yeah show me to the camera. Ok, now put me back man, I'm trying to get some sleep here.

[12:39] <@SpeedRcrX> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhyXN5vgM7k part 3
[12:39] <@SpeedRcrX> To be so passionate about a cause that you live your life for it, and risk death day-in-day-out for it, and feel the joy of life doing so instead of grim obligation, to become enormously successful doing so, and funnel all of that success back into your passion. I can wish myself and my friends and everyone here no better. He died young but wasted no time in living every moment of his life to the fullest extent possible. There's no Darwin award here. He was simply swimming in the ocean and got stabbed by a creture who I'm sure still had his admiration, sympathy and love even in that moment. If there's an afterlife, I'm sure he's up there defending that Stingray to every angel that'll listen.
[12:39] <@SpeedRcrX> But yeah, I can't ask for him to rest in peace. It's not what he'd want. Live on in adventure, mate.

When I read this, I got tears in my eyes.

He was a great man.

starcat • 09/05/06 08:20pm
Steve Irwin, a.k.a. "The Croc Hunter", was a guy who completely and thoroughly enjoyed everything about his job and the animals he worked with. It showed in his shows on both TV and live at the zoo. More importantly, he *respected* nature and the animals and that also showed. All the world was a stage to him and the animals fellow actors and partners.

He might have been a flamboyant showoff to some people ( or a fearless enthusiast with a contagious attitude you just couldn't help but love ) over here in the U.S., but over in Austrailia the man was practically a living legend. I remember earlier today watching a CNN report on how the Austrailian public was responding to the news of Steve Irwin's death. Some people felt like they'd actually lost a son or a national treasure. One thing's for certain, he will be dearly missed the world over.

Solarchos [e-mail] • 09/05/06 04:21pm
Yes, he lived life exactly the way he wanted... I guess I'm so sad because he was so young and larger-than-life, like a big kid... I honestly wanted to see him doing what he loved for another 10-15 years and then stepping back, enjoying time with his family and loved ones-- he did so much for wildlife. I know that back in the day I too was like "WTF Steve" with the baby dangling thing, but it turns out the camera angle was bad, and the baby was quite, quite far away as could be seen from another shot--

I mean... people don't come like that often. If you watch the third youtube vid with the snake, where it comes RIGHT UP TO HIM... this was a man who put his life on the line so many times just to share the world he loved with others... to show them things they never would ever see on their own.

He was happy, and fun, and intelligent-- I can't tell you how many times I've just wanted to cry over this. It just feels so sudden, so senseless, so wrong. As Ikari said in chat the other night (paraphrasing) "he never knew of my existence, but I miss him."

Same here. He felt like a big kid brother somehow. Like a fixture you expect to see grinning and happy and full of life. I guess that's how I always want to remember him.

And Yeah, Elios sounded normal. I just didn't have the will to thug him up.

I'm not taking this well, and I know it might seem odd considering you might say it's just a face on TV but still.

A line from X3 comes to mind. "Great men never live to see their works accomplished." He was in the middle of trying to unite five major wildlife organizations and to get them well-funded when he died. The Australians want to give him a state funeral and perhaps name a state park after him. If you look past the theatrics, he was a great man in his own right. In his own way, he was as powerful and eleoquent a speaker for the wonders of the natural world as our generation has seen. Sure he wasn't "high-fallooting" about it, or stolid, but he was aiming at children, and those with the hearts of children, going right for the primal sense of awe that so many of us have lost as we grow older and "mature." Someone once said they didn't appreciate what he brought to the table until they looked at his imitators. That zest, that passion, that honest love for his work and suject matter and mission... all gone so quickly.

But that's why, at least for me, why I'm so sad about this. He deserved a long and happy life.

And damnit, this needs to be a blog entry unto itself.

Argh, this was probably the hardest thing to read on here. I can't help but let my tears fall, he really was someone special. As an animal lover myself (Not that way Helios~)I will miss seeing his shows and getting able to see something most of us would never be able to see otherwise. However.. seeing his death is not something I have the strengh to do.

I don't think they should show the footage of his death. I'll be one to join Haruka and not watch it if it ever airs.
