Target sells the Sweeper for about $35, if I remember correctly.
Yeah, I try to stay away from buying off infomercials...
I think part of the "scam" in some of these cases is that a lot of these guys are self-made entrepreneurs. Quality control may sometimes be problematic. And yeah, some of these things might very well be fly-by-night scams. Caveat emptor.
On a different note, if anyone's ever seen or heard about those "Samurai Shark" knife and tool sharpeners, those actually aren't bad. I got a couple of them a little while ago and they do perform as advertised, as Mike's own kitchen knife is testament to. I had to do some cutting when I was cooking up the mega-batch of stir-fry for everyone at Otakon and the knife I needed was duller than a butter-knife. Five or six swipes from the Samurai Shark was all it took to bring that thing up to the sharpness I needed. So...if you've got dull knives, scissors, shears, or other edged tools in your home and need an easy way of fixing them up, it might be worth your while to get one of these things.
