[21:47] *** Now talking in #suburbansenshi
[21:47] <
@SpeedRcrX> The topic's been Pro Wrestling for the last few days, and I'm not done yet
[21:47] <
@SpeedRcrX> I just read something that sticks with me:
[21:48] <
@SpeedRcrX> "Some people dismiss wrestling all too easily because of its carnival roots and ridiculous plots. But really, what's so rational about dressing up in colored armor and beating your fellow man as half-naked women cheer you on at the coliseum? I've just described the nation's most popular sport, professional football."
[21:48] <
// J_Daito //> I think most people are annoyed because the outcome is decided.
[21:49] <
@SpeedRcrX> Wrestling is, I'm gonna submit, a different kind of competition.
[21:49] <
@SpeedRcrX> The quest for the belt is about who's the best all over performer.
[21:49] <
@SpeedRcrX> If you're good on the mic, popular with the crowd, a good entertainer, you earn a push that get you the belt.
[21:49] <
// J_Daito //> Or if you marry the boss' daughter
[21:50] <
@SpeedRcrX> ... Ignoring politics and s
[BLEEP]t
[21:50] <
@SpeedRcrX> Wrestling is still an open competition. Can you be the best damn in-ring worker and performer?
[21:50] <
@SpeedRcrX> Can you do what it takes to EARN the right to wear the big gold belt?
[21:51] <
@SpeedRcrX> (and BTW I LOVE TNA's new Big Gold Belt)
[21:51] <
@SpeedRcrX> So in that way, you're still working, training and sweating to earn the RIGHT to get the 1-2-3.
[21:51] <
@SpeedRcrX> So while the match OUTCOME might be fixed, you still need to legitimately EARN the right to achieve the fix.
[21:53] <
@SpeedRcrX> In other words, it's like a talent competition. The real test of a champion is how well he performs all through the year, not just in a match. The celebrations at the end of some title matches are like the awards ceremony. After busting your ass off in the under and mid cards for years, you earn the "Emmy" of scoring the pin at a PPV with millions watching.
[21:53] <
// J_Daito //> Aren't you just rationalizing, Ten'ou?
[21:53] <
// J_Daito //> I mean, David Arquette didn't do anything and he got to wear the WCW belt.
[21:54] <
@SpeedRcrX> And WCW folded soon after.
[21:54] <
@SpeedRcrX> People still respect the belt and what it stands for. If you don't deserve to ear the belt they will let you know.
[21:55] <
@SpeedRcrX> You only earn the right to wear it after proving yourself.
[21:55] <
@SpeedRcrX> So while your individual actions in *a* match may not mean much, because the end is set up, all your actions prior, in all your matches prior, decide whether you even EARN the right to have that match.
[21:56] * @SpeedRcrX is away: It's still an open competition, it just takes place over the span of a career not a single match.
